One of the best
places in Japan
to get a good,
home-cooked meal
is at a "taishu
shokudo" (public
eatery or local
cafe). The
decor is simple,
the service is
friendly, the
menu (in
Japanese) is
usually posted
on the wall,
prices are very
reasonable and
the people
running the
place are often
a husband and
wife team.
They serve draft
beer by the mug
and the
television in
the corner will
most likely be
tuned to a
sporting event.
