How much do your photos cost?

Rights-Managed Images

Pricing for rights-managed images depends on several factors, such as: usage (whether printed in a magazine or shown in an presentation), distribution (number of copies), image size (1/2 printed page or a an entire billboard) and length of time the image is used.

To estimate your licensing fee, select your project details using the drop-down menus on the Registration & Photo Request Form.  If your project particulars are not listed, or you wish to receive a custom quote, complete the same form and include a verbal description of your photo needs.

Royalty-Free Images

Royalty-free images (stock numbers with the "RF" prefix) are offered at a flat, discounted rate based on the media type in which they are used.  Licensing fees per image are as follows:

Advertising: US$129.00; Consumer Goods: US$49.00; Corporate: US$69.00; Display: US$59.00;

Editorial: US$39.00; Multi-media: US$19.00; Other Usage: Same as rights-managed.

How do I license images from Photo Japan?

Photo Japan grants a license to use its images for reproduction.  To license an image for your commercial project, follow these simple steps:

#1: Image Selection

Select images from Gallery pages using the Lightbox feature. Or, enter the stock photo numbers from your database Search directly into the Registration & Photo Request Form.  If requested, preview enlargements will be made available within one business day.

#2: Price & Agreement

Use the Registration & Photo Request Form to estimate the license fee for your project or have us quote a firm figure for you.  Upon acceptance of the fee, a Licensing Agreement outlining project-specific image rights and usage will be sent for signature.

#3: Fee Payment

The license fee shall be remitted in U.S. Dollars per the terms and conditions outlined in the licensing agreement.  Various Payment Options are available.

#4: Image Delivery

High-resolution images are delivered via Internet download or on disk within one business day.

How quickly can I get my photos?

We make every effort to deliver preview enlargements and high-resolution image files within one business day.  Depending on our work load, photo buyers on tight production schedules can sometimes get images within a few hours, however, this expedited service may increase the fee. Processing your request depends in part on how quickly the licensing agreement is signed and returned. High-resolution images can be downloaded immediately once the agreement particulars are complete.

Can students and non-profit organizations get a discount?

Top

Although serious requests from non-commercial photo buyers are accepted, Photo Japan does not provide special pricing or discounts to organizations with non-profit status, students, artists or individuals. Please do not inquire otherwise!  If you are looking for free images, click here.

Are quantity discounts available?

Yes.  Photo Japan typically offers 10% off for photo buyers licensing six or more rights-managed images. Additional discounts may apply depending on your business association with Photo Japan.  See Image Pricing for more details.

What payment options do I have?

Payment is accepted by credit card, company check, cashier's check, money order, international bank cheque, international money order, direct deposit, E-check and international bank wire transfers. Extended payment plans are not available.  All funds must be remitted in U.S. dollars. See Payment Options for more details.

Can I get a catalog or sample CD?

Our "catalog" is exclusively on-line with more than 2,500 images in the Sample Photo Gallery.  Thousands more images are accessible via a database Search. Printed catalogs and sampler CD's are not available for distribution at this time.

Can I get free sample enlargements?

Top

Yes. Photo Japan will provide up to twenty low-resolution, watermarked digital enlargements to commercial photo buyers at no charge. These images are intended for in-house comp and layout purposes only. For more than twenty preview enlargements, a small, refundable research fee is charged.  See Image Pricing for more details.

Can I purchase a photo outright?

Most image licensing is for one-time, non-exclusive rights. Unlimited rights can be purchased with a prescribed license expiration date but such rights are also "non-exclusive." Rights-protected licensing (exclusive use of an image) is available for a premium fee with a maximum protection term of one year. We do not offer "buy-out" or "full-rights" licensing.

Do you have images of other countries?

Photo Japan stocks images relating exclusively to the country of Japan. We have a broad range of subjects that include both traditional and modern aspects of Japanese culture. For an historical perspective we offer Vintage Photos depicting life in Japan during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  We do not stock images of other countries or cultures.

Can I get a print to frame and hang on the wall?

Photo Japan images are typically sold as digital files that are intended for use in commercial reproduction. Our digital images may not be used for the purposes of creating your own art decor prints.  If you would like to buy photos to frame and hang on the wall, please complete the Registration & Photo Request Form.  Pricing for color and black & white Art Decor Prints is listed on the pull-down menus.  Note: There is a five-print minimum per order.
